This artwork was motivated by me creating something where art and functionality meet. This is the reason I chose the folding screen which is not only the main importance of the painting but it is a unique form. The arched form carries the meaning of femininity. The special arches of the screen door make a sinus curve which reminds of the female pelvis. The three doors designate three motifs for me, which is why I chose the 3 steps of conception – as my theme. Above, the pose of the female figure laying along the screen mediates the centripetal, inward powers of the feminine against the yang, centrifugal, extrovert powers. On the back of the screen the same female appears from the back and gives a feeling of the mystique and turning inside of herself. This actually refers to the original function of the screen: in the separated sanctuary the Female can dress herself up where finally, even if just for one moment, she can be alone in her nakedness.
